Cradle-to-Career Education

The education pillar goal is to provide quality neighborhood-based educational opportunities from cradle to college and career. In collaboration with families and partners in education, we are working to establish a quality neighborhood-based cradle-to-career educational pathway for the Beechwood and EMMA neighborhoods. We believe that every Beechwood and EMMA child should have the opportunity to attend a high-quality local community school that provides an excellent education and quality services. This educational pathway provides children with social/emotional support, health and wellness resources, and educational opportunities from six weeks.

Local children, families, and adults should have access to ongoing educational opportunities and services in a central, welcoming location within the neighborhood.

Education Goals

The Feeder Pattern

A quality education offers a stepping stone out of poverty. In this model, education starts as early as six weeks and continues through college and/or a career. There are two public schools in the Connected Communities catchment area; School #33 (EPK-6th grade) and East High School (6th-12th grade). Through community voice and efforts these two schools have an established feeder pattern partnership.

Early Childhood Development

Children enrolled in neighborhood-based childcare facilities receive resources from the neighborhood elementary school. Partners in education advocate for priority enrollment for children entering pre-kindergarten to attend programs in their neighborhood.

Students enrolled in the neighborhood UPK programs, and students who live in the neighborhood receive priority enrollment in the neighborhood elementary school.

East High
EPO

Scholars transitioning from the neighborhood elementary school or who live in the neighborhood receive priority enrollment in the secondary school. Curriculum and resource coordination between the partnership elementary and secondary schools ensure an efficient transition and success.

Community School

A Community School is a place or set of partnerships that coordinate resources for students and families and create the conditions needed for students to thrive, ultimately forming a “Hub” within the neighborhood. Community Schools strengthen partnerships, programs, and services that lead to improved student outcomes, stronger families, and healthier communities.
