Quarterback Image (New)

For the past ten years, Connected Communities has served as the Community Quarterback—bringing residents, partners, and resources together to turn vision into reality. From housing and education to wellness and economic empowerment, we’ve guided collaborative efforts that have transformed the Beechwood and EMMA neighborhoods. This video celebrates the impact of our role as a QB: removing barriers, aligning community voices, and ensuring that every play moves us closer to thriving, equitable neighborhoods.

Awardees

Celebrating the community members, local leadership, and funders whose dedication and support have driven our work forward is an honor. Through these stories, we highlight the individuals and partners who embody the spirit of collaboration and have played a key role in building stronger, thriving neighborhoods.

Community Impact Stories

Dopeland to Hopeland

“On our block, there was once a house infamous for selling drugs alongside crab dinners. They even had the audacity to promote their so-called “business, Dopeland,” with flyers distributed up and down the street. What followed was predictable—bad actors drawn to the area, crime creeping closer to our doorsteps, and a constant feeling of unease in our own neighborhood. But the story didn’t end there. When that house eventually burned down, what was left behind was not just an empty lot, but an opportunity. Neighbors came together, determined to reclaim what once brought shame and turn it into a source of pride. Today, that same lot has been transformed into a place of joy and connection—a central spot where families gather, barbecues sizzle, and community celebrations fill the air.

What was once Dopeland has truly become Hopeland—a testament to our resilience, unity, and the power of reclaiming our neighborhood.”

Restoring Homes, Restoring Hope

A single father and his young son were able to move into their new apartment after weeks of living in temporary housing while renovations were completed. Facing the possibility of eviction, this family now has a stable home and a fresh start. “The Landlord Fund has been essential for helping us open new units,” shares Joshua Horn, Executive Director of 441 Ministries. “It allows us to make sure every home we provide is:

  • Affordable – priced below market value

  • Dignified – safe and high-quality

  • Sustainable – ensuring long-term housing stability”

For this father and son, the result is more than a place to live—it’s the security of home and the foundation to thrive. This is the impact of the Landlord Fund.

From Pitch to Progress:

My Journey with Connected Communities

“The Neighborhood Pitch Competition has been very helpful in moving my business forward, providing not only valuable knowledge from the classes but also funding that gave me a strong boost. The entire environment throughout the competition was friendly, welcoming, and supportive, which made the experience even more impactful for my growth as an entrepreneur. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who has aspirations of starting or growing their business, as it offers both the resources and encouragement needed to succeed!”

Empowering Students and Families Through Partnership

“Our partnership with Connected Communities has been transformative for School #33 scholars, families, and staff. Together, we’ve funded teacher grants that spark classroom innovation, developed parent leaders, and built a stronger PTA that drives family engagement. Through our shared work on the Community Engagement Team and neighborhood recruitment, we are strengthening the pipeline from School #33 to East and improving student attendance. Connected Communities has also linked us to initiatives like Hope585’s Reimagine Project, connecting families with critical community resources. This partnership continues to create a supportive network that uplifts our students and empowers our families, and I look forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead.”

Lisa Garrow, School #33 Principal
